FreeBMD is part of FreeUKGEN, an initiative aimed at helping make high quality primary (or near-primary) records of relevance to UK genealogy conveniently and freely available online, in a coherent, easy to access and search, information retrieval system. FreeBMD is an ongoing project, the aim of which is to transcribe the Civil Registration index of births, marriages and deaths for England and Wales, and to provide free Internet access to the transcribed records. Civil registration only begun in 1837 and this database is still in the process of compiling all the entries. It was last updated on the 28th October 2004 and currently contains 89,196,214 distinct records (104,889,149 total records)

FreeCEN is also part of the FreeUKGEN initiative. FreeCEN aims to provide a "free-to-view" online searchable database of the UK census returns for 1841 - 1891. Again the database is still in the process of compiling all the entries. It was last updated on the 27th October 2004. The number of entries it contains is unclear but it is growing all the time with the help of a band of willing volunteers.

Again FreeREG is part of the FreeUKGEN initiative. FreeREG aims to provide free internet searches of baptism, marriage, and burial records, which have been transcribed from parish and non-conformist church registers in the UK. Again the database is still in the process of being compiled but the database is updated regularly.
